How Live Blog Transformed Event Coverage for Denmark’s Largest Sports Organisation

By Flora Szandi | December 17, 2024

The National Olympic Committee and Sports Confederation of Denmark (Danmarks Idrætsforbund, or DIF) is Denmark’s largest sports organisation, dedicated to promoting sports, and to supporting and improving conditions and opportunities for elite and recreational athletes.

This year, DIF used Live Blog to cover two important events – the Danish Championship Week (DM-ugen) and the 2024 Paralympics – to give audiences real-time updates and behind-the-scenes stories with competitors and their teams.

The Challenge

DIF faced significant challenges with their previous live blogging software. The main issue was that the platform’s Instagram integration, an important part of DIF’s live blogging strategy, wasn’t working properly. Organizers needed better live blogging support and a faster, more nimble solution.

The Solution

DIF wanted to tell narratives by incorporating social media content, mainly from Facebook and Instagram, into its posts. This was made possible by Live Blog’s seamless integration with social media platforms. With Live Blog, DIF incorporated live content from athletes and teams, creating an immersive experience to help readers gain a deeper understanding of athletes’ stories.

The experience with Live Blog’s support team has been great, because we always get help whenever we need it,” said DIF communications consultant Louise Dyring Mbae. “Live Blog is very intuitive to work with and easy to explain to first-time users.

Live Blog also offered customisation features that helped DIF maintain brand consistency. By matching the live blog’s design to DIF’s website, organisers were able to create a unified experience for users. The setup process, including matching fonts and a custom-created template, also went smoothly.

Another major advantage for DIF was the Live Blog Reporter app, which allowed writers to provide live updates directly from event locations. The team could post real-time content while on the go, which helped them to cover every significant moment as it happened.

After the conclusion of DM-ugen and the 2024 Paralympics, DIF has used Live Blog for coverage of other sports, such as floorball and diving. “Live Blog is a great tool to ensure that all sports get attention, and not just the major ones picked up by the news,” Dyring Mbae said.

The Result

Live Blog has proven to be an invaluable tool for DIF, providing the organisation with a reliable and easy-to-use platform. DIF will continue using Live Blog for future events, and as a way to pull social media content, quotes and general athlete stories into a single narrative.

A powerful live blogging platform is a must for covering sports events of all sizes (as well as other live events). Book your demo to find out how Live Blog can help your organisation.
